Ladányi frying pans serve multiple generations.

There are very few everyday kitchen items that can be used for an entire lifetime.

The creators of the Ladányi Pan from Püspökladány want to bring back exactly this mindset: they make cookware that is not meant for just a few years, but for generations. The founders of the family business, József Ulveczki and his wife, Katalin Ulveczki, have not only created a product, but are also building a community whose members believe in quality, tradition, and the value of Hungarian craftsmanship. They spoke about the beginnings, the production process, and the advantages of carbon steel pans.

How was the idea of the Ladányi Pan born?

Both of them love cooking and baking, and in their own kitchen they often faced the fact that today’s coated pans wear out or get damaged relatively quickly. They missed the flavours and aromas of childhood, when food was prepared in grandmothers’ heavy cast-iron pans. With several decades of experience in the metal industry, the idea came naturally to create a durable, coating-free, Hungarian-made pan. It was named after their beloved town, Püspökladány.

What makes the Ladányi Pan special?

Most importantly, it is a 100 percent Hungarian-designed and Hungarian-made handcrafted product. It is made of carbon steel and contains no artificial coatings or Teflon, so there is no need to worry about harmful substances leaching out during use. The stainless steel handle is designed to heat up less during cooking.

How does the production process work?

Every step of the process takes place in Püspökladány. From shaping the carbon steel to attaching the handles and carrying out the final quality control, every single piece passes through their hands. It is important to them that customers receive a truly Hungarian handcrafted product backed by the work of local professionals.

Many people are hesitant to use carbon steel pans. What is worth knowing about them?

The only real enemy of carbon steel is rust, but with proper use this is easy to prevent. After use, it is enough to wipe the pan dry and then coat it with a thin layer of fat or oil. And if a little rust does appear somewhere, it can simply be removed and the pan can be used again.

What does seasoning mean?

Many people are afraid of it, although it is actually a simple process. Before first use, the pan needs to be heated through and then lightly oiled. This creates a natural layer that provides increasingly better non-stick properties over time. One of the great advantages of carbon steel is that the more it is used, the better it becomes.

What kinds of dishes can be prepared best in it?

Thanks to the excellent heat retention of carbon steel, it is an ideal choice for steak, breaded meats, egg dishes, bacon, or even pancakes. It can be used on gas, induction, and ceramic hobs alike, and can
